Spotting an Infestation
Having treated hundreds of infestations in the area, we know Northeast Tennessee’s pests better than anyone. Here are some of the most common insects and vermin we deal with and some infestation warning signs to look out for in your home or business:
Bed Bugs
Bed bugs are insects that feed on blood, and they usually aggregate in areas near their food source. If you have itchy red welts on your skin and your bedding or furniture has small, dark browns stains, you could have an infestation. A Certified Bed Bug Specialist will perform a thorough inspection, eradicate these pests quickly, and recommend several ways you can prevent re-infestations. Pest Detectives offer conventional, thermal (heat), Aprehend® biopesticide, and combination treatments to eradicate bed bugs for good. Their treatments come with a 90 day coverage period and DO NOT require any prep work from clients! They do the hard part and you have peace of mind with a lengthy 90 day coverage period.
Rodents
Rats and mice are dangerous because they often come riddled with ailments and other smaller pests. They are known to spread more than 35 diseases.
Check undisturbed areas for small droppings or gnawed-on food, packaging, and wooden fixtures. If you think you have an infestation, our rodent control service employs traps and baits for effective removal. We also check for possible entry points to your home.
Cockroaches
Cockroaches are the bane of every household, but they are no match for Pest Detectives. These pests are known to cause allergic reactions and trigger asthma attacks. These insects can multiply rapidly and survive in the harshest conditions, making infestations very difficult to treat without professional help. They are more active during the nighttime and prefer to lay their small brown eggs in warm, humid areas.
Ants
Ants can quickly become a nuisance if they start developing multiple colonies around your property. Eventually, they will infest your interiors to look for food and water. Regularly check your outdoor area for earth mounds and every room with a moisture source for dirt trails.
Spiders
While most native arachnids in Tennessee pose no danger to humans, the area is also home to the Black Widow and Brown Recluse Spider. Both of these species produce venoms that can make you ill, or even cause death. Spiders usually prefer to build their webs outdoors and other places where they’re more likely to catch prey.
Fleas
Fleas are common parasitic pests that feed on their warm-blooded mammal hosts as their only source of food. Fleas can infest a home, particularly when pets and outdoor lovers go inside and out. The flea life cycle is short, which means they can multiply and get out of control quickly.
Termites
Subterranean Termites are wood destroying organisms that build tunnels, or mud tubes, in the ground and under structures. They are mostly light colored, have 6 legs, straight antennae, a broad waist, and may or may not have wings. Sometimes the wings cause them to be mistaken for flying ants. Termites may vary in appearance depending on their role within the colony. Learn more about our wood destroying organism inspections and treatments.
Inspection
First, a certified pest management professional will identify the pest infestation. Then, your property will be inspected for common entry points, which include:

-
Doors and windows
-
Gutters and other pipework
-
Vents, exhausts, and other crawlspaces
-
Cracks and crevices

We will also assess the moisture levels in your rooms since wet areas tend to attract and harbor more pests.
Our Pest Control Process
Pest control involves tackling your current infestation and preventing new ones from reoccurring. Here’s a general overview of our procedure:

Treatment
After thoroughly investigating your property and collecting relevant information, we will recommend an appropriate treatment plan. As an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practicing business, we only employ the most practical methods of dealing with pests.
Prevention
Why eliminate a pest in the first place, if it is simply going to return in the future? Our pest management professionals will go through the necessary steps to help you prevent the occurrence of new infestations. This process involves protecting all entry points, removing every potential food source, and employing other measures that discourage pest propagation.
